Shae Anthony

This is Shae (she/her). Shae lives on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh + Sel̓íl̓witulh lands.

Shae’s journey to art, healing, and social justice grew from her own love of art making and her experience of attending and facilitating art groups that were inspiring places of connection, community building, and calm. As an Irish and Six Nations Delaware woman, Shae believes in the interconnection of our lives.

Shae believes that craft and art are vital to a healthy society, a society of makers versus consumers. Cooking is valuable. Gardening is valuable. Sewing is valuable. Building is valuable. Making things with your own hands, yourself, in the physical world is valuable and will never go out of style. That’s why Shae is so excited to be part of the DAREarts team, and to witness students delving into their own creative processes.

If Shae could be any art form, she would be a beadwork. Beadwork is a form of communication and expression. Each bead is strung on with intention and love. If she was a beaded earring, she would love to hang out on someone’s earlobe and she would always have a friend, because earrings usually come in pairs.

In her free time Shae likes to go to art workshops, spend time with friends, bike, run and thrift. Shae is slowly baking through every recipe in “Dessert Person”, and she loves to share what she makes when it turns out!
