Join DAREarts Youth Council

We’re so happy you’ve decided to apply to join the DAREarts youth council!

Join and meet new people, collaborate on new ideas, and most importantly HAVE FUN!

The national DAREarts Youth Council was designed to give youth a platform to advocate for youth voices and strengthen ties with their communities. As DAREarts continues to grow and improve our programming, inclusion of youth voices in our work is critical to effectively responding to the evolving needs of our community.

The council will meet once a month for 10 months (September 2021 to May 2022) from 4:00-6:00pm ET on Zoom. An honorarium of $25/meeting (Total of $250 for 10 meetings) will be provided to Youth Council Representatives based on attendance and Youth Council assigned distribution date.

When you apply, please select one of the 6 Youth Council representative positions (or choose multiple options if you feel you’d be a good fit for a variety of roles!). Here are the role details:

  • Be present during bi-annual EDI Panel

  • Represent Youth Council in external meetings

  • Be friendly, outgoing, and approachable
  • Be curious and open to asking questions
  • Be organized and a good problem solver
  • Be interested in exploring their creativity with others
(2) Creative Directors
  • Be present during bi-annual EDI Panel
  • Research and encourage creative visions and opportunities
  • Ensure designs and content reflect Youth Council
  • Delegate responsibilities of creative projects among Youth Council members
  • Collaborate on Youth Engagement Guideline
  • Have strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills
  • Be familiar with social media and online platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Google Drive, etc.
  • Have strong communication and presentation skills
  • Be interested in exploring their creativity with others
(2) Meeting Secretary
  • Maintain effective records and administration
  • Keep a record of Youth Council publications (blogs, articles, newsletters, zines, etc.)
  • Keep and share detailed minutes of monthly Youth Council meetings
  • Collaborate on Youth Engagement Guideline
  • Be friendly, outgoing, and approachable
  • Be organized and a good problem solver
  • Be curious and open to asking questions
  • Be able to take notes quickly and concisely
  • Have the ability to multitask effectively
(2) Communications Leads
  • Respond to Youth Council emails & social media engagement
  • Review & distribute monthly meeting agenda
  • Support creative content creation
  • Collaborate on Youth Engagement Guideline
  • Be friendly, outgoing, and approachable
  • Have experience using any digital design programs (Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, Photopea, etc.)
  • Be curious and open to asking questions
  • Be organized and a good problem solver
  • Be interested in exploring creativity with others
Volunteer Drop-In
(please note that this is not a compensated role, but great for anyone interested who isn’t quite ready to jump into full council involvement!)
  • Support and promote the Youth Council and their work
  • Encourage youth engagement
  • Be friendly, outgoing and approachable
  • Be curious and open to asking questions

DAREarts welcomes applications from all creative youth, regardless of experience or background, between the ages of 15 and 21. We encourage applications from diverse communities, including Indigenous, racialized, disabled, queer, and trans* youth. We welcome all experiences (i.e. lived and academic) that applicants feel support their qualifications for joining the Youth Council, and encourage applicants to note this in their application.
